The Three Muses: Legs / Sääret

Kevät on tullut, ja Neiti Lintu ja hänen serkkutyttönsä ovat pukeutuneet uusiin leggingseihinsä ja lähteneet kevätkävelylle. Pojatkin tykkää keväästä, koska tyttöjen sääret alkavat taas näkyä, kun siirrytään paksuista talvitamineista kesämekkoihin ja minihameisiin. - Tällä altsukirjan aukeamalla osallistun Kolmen Muusan haasteeseen, jonka aiheena on "sääret".

Miss Bird and her girl cousins have put on their new leggings and gone for a nice spring walk. Boys love the spring, too, because girls are showing their legs again wearing summer dresses and mini skirts. - This spread from my altered book is my entry for the Three Muses' challenge "Legs".

The Three Muses: Stars / Tähdet

Kevät joka vuosi yhtä mahtava ja riemastuttava näytelmä, ja pohjoiseen palaavat muuttolinnut ovat sen suurimpia tähtiä. Tällä altsukirjani aukeamalla, jossa olen kuvannut joutsenia muuttomatkallaan, osallistun Kolmen Muusan tähti-aiheiseen haasteeseen. Ja tähdethän liittyvät muuttolintuihin sitenkin, että monet linnuista osaavat suunnistaa tähtien mukaan. - Sivujeni pohjalla on osa pohjoista maapalloa vanhasta karttakirjasta sekä mustaa gessoa, joutsenet olen leikannut lehtikuvasta. - Ihanaa kevättä kaikille!

Every year the spring is a marvellous and joyful show, whose main stars here in the north are the returning migrating birds. This spread from my altered book, where I have depicted some swans on their journey, is my entry for this week's Three Muses challenge "Stars". The stars and the migrating birds go together in another sense as well, because many birds can navigate by the stars. - On the background of my pages is a part of the northern part of the globe from an old atlas, and I painted the pages with black gesso. The swans are from a magazine illustration. - I wish you all a wonderful spring time - or autumn or summer for those, who don't live in the northern hemisphere!

The Three Muses: Kartat / Maps

Kolmen Muusan "Kartta"-haasteeseen osallistun tällä atc:lla, jossa pääskyset ovat lähteneet kohti pohjoista Suomea jossain eksoottisessa etelässä sijaitsevasta talvehtimispaikastaan. Kevät on taas lähtenyt käyntiin sellaisella vauhdilla, että tuntuu kuin joka päivä tapahtuisi jotain: uusi lintulaji on palannut, uusi kukka puhjennut kukkimaan, ruoho on vihreämpää ja raparperinalut muhkeampia. Kyllä tätä kevättä on odotettukin pitkän ja lumisen talven jälkeen! - Taustan kartta on Elegian digiarkista, pääskyt ja karttaruusu googletettuja.

This atc is my entry for the Three Muses' challenge "Maps". In my collage the swallows have started their journey back to Finland in the North from some exotic Southern region where they have spent the winter - they will be here some time in the end of May. The spring has started to come here with such a speed that it seems that every day there is something new to see: new birds have arrived, new flowers started to bloom, the grass is a bit greener and the rhubarb shoots a bit bigger. We have really been waiting for the spring after such a long and snowy winter! - The background map is from Elegia's digital sheet, the swallows and the compass rose are googled.

The Three Muses: Blackbird / Mustarastas

Kolmen Muusan "Mustarastas"-aiheiseen haasteeseen tein tämän aukeman altsukirjaani. Koska en tähän aikaan vuodesta sano mustarastaille näkemiin (niinkuin haasteessa esitetty lainaus "Bye bye blackbird" vihjaa) vaan Tervetuloa isolla T:llä, niin laitoin kollaasini otsikoksi "Hello Blackbird". Mustarastaat aloittivat kevätlaulunsa täällä viime sunnuntaina, ja nyt niitten voi kuulla viheltävän voimakasta sävelmäänsä joka aamu, ja aina korkeimpien kuusten latvoissa. Kevät on viimeinkin alkanut!

This spread from my altered book is my entry for the Three Muses' challenge "Blackbirds". Their theme actually was "Bye bye blackbird", but this time of the year is not for saying bye bye but Hello! and Welcome, Blackbirds! They started their spring concerto here last Sunday, and now we can hear their loud whistling tune every morning - and they always sit on the highest branches of the trees. The Spring has finally begun!

Theme Thursday: Spring / Kevät

Tällä ATC:llä osallistun Theme Thursdayn haasteeseen, jonka aiheena on "Kevät". Minun mielestäni kevät on todella tullut silloin, kun nurmikolla alkaa kasvaa uusia vihreitä lehtiä ja kun muuttolinnut palaavat tänne kesäksi. Mutta siihen on vielä pitkä aika, koska kaikki on edelleen vähintään puolen metrin paksuisen hangen alla...

This ATC is my entry for Theme Thursday's challenge "Spring". For me, spring is here when the grass starts growing new green leaves and the migrating birds come back here for the summer. But that's still a long way ahead - everything here is covered with at least half a meter of snow...

The Three Muses: Postage Stamps / Postimerkit

Postimerkit ovat tällä viikolla aiheena Kolmen Muusan haasteessa. Tein teemasta altsukirjan aukeaman, jossa Herra ja Rouva Lintu ovat lähteneet taidegalleriaan sammuttamaan kulttuurinnälkäänsä. Ja kun siellä vielä sattui olemaan lintuaiheinen näyttelykin! Tein näyttelyn taulut suomalaisista postimerkeistä - jotka ovatkin usein ihan oikeasti pieniä taideteoksia

Postage stamps are the theme of the Three Muses' challenge this week. I made in my altered book a spread showing Mr and Mrs Bird in an art gallery where they are satisfying their need of cultural experiences. And they were lucky to see that the gallery was showing art with birds! I made the paintings of the exhibition from Finnish postage stamps - which often are small pieces of art indeed!

The Three Muses: Birds of a Feather / Lintuelämää

Kolmen Muusan viikon teema innosti minut kuvittelemaan Herra ja Rouva Linnun nuoruutta, jolloin he vastarakastuneina näkivät maailman vaaleanpunaisten silmälasien läpi. Tämän altsukirjani aukeaman tausta on maalattu helmiäisakryyliväreillä, linnut piirsin Caran d'Ache -vahaöljyliiduilla, ja vaikka olen surkea leimaaja, oli minun pakko koristella sivua noilla ihanilla Inkadinkadon lintukuvilla, jotka eilen ostin paikallisesta askartelukauppa Skräpteekistä.

The Three Muses' theme for this week inspired me to imagine the youth of Mr and Mrs Bird, when they had just fallen in love and saw the world through pink spectacles. The background of this spread from my altered book is painted with pearlescent acrylics, and I draw the birds with Caran d'Ache wax oil crayons, and even though I'm not much of a stamper, I just had to decorate the page with these wonderful images from Inkadinkado's clear stamps.

The Three Muses: Quotes / Sitaatit

Kolmen Muusan haasteen aiheena ovat sitaatit tai sanonnat - no, minun lauseeni on ehkä pikemminkin sanalasku, mutta kelvatkoon. Koska halusin taas tehdä altsukirjaani kuvan linnuista, niin tuo tuli ensimmäisenä mieleen. Niinhän se on, että jos on ajoissa liikkeellä, niin saa parhaat palat.

The theme of the Three Muses' challenge is quotes or quips - well, my quote is perhaps rather a proverb, but I think it will do. Because I wanted to make a collage with birds in my altered book, this was the first saying that came to my mind. And it's true that if you get there early you'll get the best bits.

The Three Muses: Something in the Air / Ilmassa on jotain

Kolmen Muusan aiheena on "Ilmassa on jotain". Näyttää siltä, että en osaa nykyään ajatella muuta kuin lunta, jota on joka paikassa ja joka on tänä vuonna niin tavattoman kaunista. Niinpä tein altsukirjaani tällaisen aukeaman, jossa pikkulinnut tavoittelevat lumihiutaleita nokkiinsa. - Linnut ovat itkupilliltä, hiutaleet leimasin Brilliancen Moonlight white -musteella ja tarrakirjaimet ovat Basicgreyn, molemmat ostin ihanasta Skräpteekistä.

The Three Muses challenged us to make art with the theme "Something in the air". It seems that all I can think nowadays is snow, because we have it everywhere here in Finland now, and it's absolutely beautiful this year. So I made in my altered book this spread where little birds try to catch snowflakes in the air. - The birds are from itkupilli, the white ink with which I stamped the snowflakes (Brilliance Moonlight white) and the Basicgrey's letter stickers are from our local craft shop Skräpteekki.

The Three Muses: Water / Vesi

"Vesi" on Kolmen Muusan haasteen aiheena tällä viikolla. Tällä altsukirjani aukeamalla halusin miettiä sitä, miten vesi on koti monenlaisille eläinlajeille. Ja että meidän ihmisten, joilla on valta säilyttää tai pilata vesiä, on syytä muistaa se tosiasia. - Maalasin sivut tapani mukaan helmiäis-akryyliväreillä, kalat ja simpukat ovat kiiltokuvia, muut elementit leikkasin aikakauslehdistä ja askartelupapereista.

"Water" is the theme of the Three Muses' challenge this week. On this spread from my altered book I wanted to consider the fact that water is home for many animal species. And that we people should remeber this fact because we have the power to conserve or to spoil the waters. - As usual, I painted the pages with pearlescent acrylic paints, the fish and the shells are glossy die-cuts, the other elements I cut from magazines and crafting papers.

The Three Muses: Angels / Enkelit

Kolmen Muusan ensimmäinen haaste tälle vuodelle on "Enkelit". Pienet linnutkin tarvitsevat mielestäni suojelusenkeleitä, sillä niiden maailma on täynnä vaaroja. Niinpä yritän tässä altsukirjani aukeamassa kuvitella, minkälaisia lunnunpoikasten suojelusenkelit voisivat olla. - Peipposenpoikasten valokuvat ovat Jaakko Julkusen ottamia (julkaistu Helsingin Sanomissa 4.6.2008), kolibrit ovat jostain mainoskuvasta, siivet Itkupilliltä.

The Three Muses' first challenge for this year is "Angels". I think that little birds need guardian angels, too, because their world is full of dangers. On this spread from my altered book I try to imagine what the baby birds' guardian angels could look like. - The photos of the baby birds are by Jaakko Julkunen (published in the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat on 4.6.2008), the colibris are from some ad image, the wings are from Itkupilli.

Theme Thursday: Flying / Lentäen

Näillä kahdella ATC-kortilla osallistun Theme Thursdayn haasteeseen, jonka aiheena on lentäminen. Kortit tein ompelukoneella huopapohjalle koottuun paperikollaasiin. - Samalla toivotan teille kaikille Hyvää Uutta Vuotta 2010!

The Three Muses: Something old, something new

Tässä vastaukseni (altsukirjan aukeaman muodossa) Kolmen Muusan vuodenvaihteen haasteeseen, jonka aiheena on "Jotain vanhaa, jotain uutta". Kun herra ja rouva Lintu muuttivat uuteen kotiinsa, niin se sisustettiin sekä uusilla että vanhoilla tavaroilla. - Linnunpesä on Itkupillin digiarkista, linnut ovat kiiltokuvia, kalusteiden kuvat peräisin moninaisista aikakauslehdistä. - Tämän kuvan myötä toivotan kaikille teille Hyvää Uutta Vuotta!

This is my entry (a spread from my altered book) for the Three Muses' challenge "Something old, something new". When Mr. and Mrs. Bird moved to their new home, they decorated it with both old and new things. - The bird's nest is from a digital sheet of Itkupilli, the birds are glossy die-cuts, the images of the decoration are from various magazines. - With this image I wish you all a Happy New Year!

The Three Muses: Home Sweet Home - My 100th posting with some freebies!

Tämä altsukirjani aukeama on vastaukseni Kolmen Muusan jouluviikon haasteeseen "Home Sweet Home". Lumisen talven keskellä pikkulinnut ovat pysähtyneet joulukusen oksalle haaveilemaan uudesta kesästä ja uudesta omasta kodista. - Maalasin kuusen öljtvahaliiduilla, kuusen itämaiset korusteet ovat Elegian digiarkista, linnut ovat kiiltokuvia.

Koska tämä on blogini 100:s postaus, haluan kiittää kaikkia teitä ihania lukijoitani niistä mieltä lämmittävistä kommenteista, joita olette blogiini kirjoitelleet! This spread from my altered book is my entry for the Three Muses' challenge "Home Sweet Home". In the middle of winter the little birds are sitting on a branch of the Christmas three, dreaming about a new summer and a new home nest. - I painted the tree with wax oil crayons, the oriental decorative balls are from Elegia's digital sheet, the birds are glossy die-cuts.

This being the 100th posting of my blog, I want to thank all you wonderful people, who have read and commented my entries - it has been a great pleasure to discuss with all of you all around the world! As a small gift to you I'm attaching some freebies for you: the animal images are from old school books which I have inherited from my late grandmother, and the postcard (where it reads "Merry Christmas" in Finnish) belonged originally to my late mother-in-law. With these images I wish you all Merry Christmas / Season's Greetings!

The Three Muses: Mail Art

Kolmen Muusan aiheena on tällä viikolla "Postitaide". Kaikkihan tietävät, että kyyhkyset osaavat kantaa kirjeitä, mutta tässä altsukirjani aukeamassa annoin muutamalle muullekin linnulle mahdollisuuden toimia viestinviejänä.

The Three Muses' challenge this week is "Mail art". We all know that pigeons can carry mail, but on this spread from my altered book I wanted to give some other birds a chance to act as messengers, too.

The Three Muses: Fun and Games

Tämä shakkilauta on vastaukseni Kolmen Muusan haasteeseen, jonka aiheena on hauskanpito ja pelit. Pulut ovat kiiltokuvia, shakkilaudan maalasin helmiäis-akryyliväreillä.

This chess board is my entry for the Three Muses' challenge of this week. The pigeons are glossy die cuts, and I painted the board with pearlescent acrylic paints.

The Three Muses: Key / Avain

Kolme Muusaa kaipailee töitä, joiden osana on avain. Tein taas aukeaman altsukirjaani, ja koska kirjastani näyttää muodostuvan lintuaiheinen juttu (vaikken sitä sellaiseksi alun perin suunnitellutkaan), niin laitoin avaimen haltijaksi harakan. Harakoidenhan sanotaan keräävän pesäänsä kaikenlaista kiiltävää - ja olen varma että ne kyllä keräävät myös kuulakärkikyniä ja vasemman jalan sukkia, sillä ne ovat aina hukassa ainakin minulta. - Harakka on googlattu ja muunneltu, kaikki muu on erilaista kierrätyspaperia.

This spread from my altered book is my entry for the Three Muses' challenge to use a key as a part in our works. In my piece a magpie is carrying a key to its nest - it is said that magpies collect all kinds of shiny things. (I'm sure they also collect ball-point pens and left foot socks because I can never find them when I need them...) I chose the magpie as my protagonist, because it seems that my altered book is going to be all about birds, even though I did not plan it to be like that beforehand. - The magpie is googled and altered, all the other stuff is recycled paper.

The Three Muses: Unissa / In your dreams

Kolmen Muusan teemana ovat tällä viikolla unet. Tässä altsukirjani aukeamassa uneksin Lintukodosta, paikasta johon entisaikojen ihmiset uskoivat muuttolintujen menevän, kun ne syksyllä katosivat. Koska niiden nähtiin lentävän kohti etelää tai lounasta, Lintukodon ajateltiin sijaitsevan jossain lämpimässä paikassa. Ja koska taivaankansi näytti olevan lähempänä maata taivaanrannassa, uskottiin Lintukodossa asuvan vain hyvin pieniä ihmisiä. Minulla on niin ikävä lintuja ja valoa ja lämpimiä säitä, että näen tätä unta varmasti ensi kevääseen asti. (Lintukoto-tarinoista on mielenkiintoinen artikkeli Luonto-lehden viime numerossa 8/2009).

"In your dreams" is the theme that the Three Muses gave us this week. In this spread from my altered book I dream about the place where the birds go when they leave our cold and dark country in the autumn. In the old days people believed that there is a special place, called "The home of the birds", where the birds go. Because the birds flew to South or Southwest, people thought that this home must be somewhere where it's warm. And because the sky seems to be very near the earth in the horizon, they also thought that only very small people can live there. - I miss the birds and the sunlight and the warm weather so much, that I think I'll be dreaming this dream every night until next spring arrives.

The Three Muses: Pairs

Kolmen Muusan viikon teema on "Parit", ja tämä altsukirjani aukeama on vastaus heidän haasteeseensa. Luonnossa monet eläinlajit elävät pareittain (ja niinhän me ihmisetkin ainakin yritämme tehdä...), joten valitsin aiheekseni pikkulintuparin. Linnut on leikattu servietistä, persikat kopioitu kiiltokuva-arkista. Muu osa kuvituksesta ja värityksestä on omaa aikaansaannostani, välineinä akryylimaalit, vahaliidut ja tussikynät.

The Three Muses' prompt for this week was "Oh what a peach of a pair", and this spread from my altered book is my entry for this challenge. Because English is not my mother tongue, I have a tendency to take all sayings literally, and so I just couldn't resist the temptation to put a pair of peaches in my collage besides the pair of birds, who are my main subject. - The birds are cut from a paper napkin, the peaches are a die cut, and the rest of the page I painted and drew with acrylic paints, wax oil crayons, and markers.

The Three Muses: Give me a head of hair

Kaikenlaisia hiuksia kaipailevat Kolme Muusaa tällä viikolla nähdäkseen - Hair-musikaalin avausvärssyn säestyksellä. Laitoin kuontalon kasvamaan töyhtötiaisen päälaelta, hieman liioitellun, sillä vaikka töythtis onkin hauska lintu ei sen töyhtö ihan noin mahdoton ole. All kinds of hair is what the Three Muses want to see this week. I made some hair grow from the head of a crested tit, which is a very sympathetic bird but not really as crested as this one.
