The Three Muses: Architecture / Arkkitehtuuri

Kolme Muusaa antoi viikon teemaksi "Arkkitehtuurin". No sehän vaatii hieman enemmän tilaa, joten tein altsukirjaani tällaisen ylileveän aukeman. Aiheeksi valitsin Helsingin Senaatintorin, tuon tieteen (Yliopisto), uskon (Tuomiokirkko) ja vallan (Valtioneuvoston linna) keskittymän - ja yritin kuvitella, miltä paikka voisi näyttää pulujen näkökulmasta. Senaatintori on mielestäni todella komea paikka empire-arkkitehtuureineen ja ihana kesä-Helsingin sydän, jossa voi nautiskella jäätelöä kirkonportailla istuen ja ihmisiä katsellen. - Senaatintoria voi katsella Virtuaalihelsingin panoraamanäkymästä.

The Three Muses gave us this week as theme for our artworks "Architecture". As it requires quite a lot of space, I made this over-sized spread in my altered book. My architectural scene is the Senate Square in Helsinki, a concentration of science (the University), religion (the Cathedral) and power (the Council of State building) - and I tried to imagine what the place would look like from the point of view of the pigeons. I think the Senate Square is a fantastic place with its empire-style architecture, and a wonderful heart of the summer-Helsinki where you can sit on the church stairs eating ice-cream and watching people going by. - You can see a panoramic view of the Square at Virtualhelsinki website.

Collage Obsession # 6: Chinese / Kiinalainen

Collage Obsessionin uusi haaste on nimeltään "Kiinalainen". Käytin annetun kuvan (kaksi tyttöä saippuamainoksesta) osana tätä altsukirjaan tekemääni kollaasia, jolla juhlistan Tiikerin vuoden alkamista. Muut kuvat ovat sieltä täältä (kiitos kaikille, mm. Rianille kolmosesta ja perhosesta).

Collage Obsession's new challenge is titled "Chinese". I used the given image (two girls from a soap advertisement) as a part of this collage which I made in my altered book to celebrate the beginning of Tiger's year. The rest of the images are from here and there (thank you everyone, including Rian for the number 3 and the butterfly).

Vaihtelua Caritan kanssa / Trading cards with Carita

Osallistuimme Caritan kanssa kumpikin Annen Haastan sinut -haasteeseen nro 67, ja sittenpä vaihdoimme tekemämme kortit keskenään. Lisäksi teimme Caritan ehdotuksesta vielä toiset kortit vaihtoon, joten toteutimme pienen tuplavaihdon. Tässä ovat Caritalta saamani tyylikkäät ja kauniit ja hyvällä värisilmällä toteutetut kortit "Kevät koittaa" (vasemmalla) ja "Heräävä toivo". - Alla ovat Caritalle lähettämäni kortit "Perhossoppa" ja "Kesäkeitto". Taitaa meillä kummallakin (niinkuin varmasti monella muullakin) olla kevään odotus jo kovasti mielessä!

The Three Muses: Nature / Luonto

Kolmen Muusan viikon teema on "Luonto". Tein altsukirjaani palan viidakkoa leimaamalla taustan oikeilla kasvien lehdillä (no, oli pakko käyttää huonekasveja) ja leimasinmusteella.

The Three Muses' theme for this week is "Nature". I made in my altered book a spread with a piece of jungle by stamping the background with real leaves (for obvious reasons I had to use the plants in my living room) and inkpads.

Collage Obsession # 5: Misty / Sumuinen

Collage Obsessionin uusimman haasteen aiheena on Sumu, ja virikekuvana upea valokuva intiaanista sumuisella joella tai järvellä. Sumusta tuli mieleeni akvarellien utuinen värimaailma, ja niinpä rakensin oman kollaasini hyvin yksinkertaisesti liittämällä valokuvaan taustaksi pienen palan yhdestä omasta akvarellistani.

Collage Obsession challenged us to make a collage with the theme "Misty". As a starting point the "obsessive" Elegia gave us this fantastic photo of an indian by a misty river or lake. The word "misty" made me think of the misty character of aquarelle paintings, and so I built my collage very simply by adding to the photo a piece of one of my own aquarelles as the background.

Theme Thursday: Flower(s) / Kukk(i)a

Tällä altsukirjan aukeamalla osallistun Theme Thursdayn kukka-aiheiseen haasteeseen. Teki mieleni tehdä jotain kesäistä ja värikästä, sillä olen niiiiiin kyllästynyt tuohon kokovalkoiseen maisemaan, jota on saanut katsella kohta kaksi kuukautta. - Naamakukat ovat Teesha Moorelta, numerot tälläkin kertaa Riandesignilta. Perhoset leikkasin omista kukkavalokuvistani PhotoShopin piparkakkumuotti-työkalulla.

This spread from my altered book is my entry for Theme Thursday's flower challenge. I wanted to make something summery and colourful, because I'm really starting to get bored with this all-white landscape we've had now for almost two months. - The flowers with faces are from Teesha Moore, the numbers from Riandesign. The butterflies are cut from my own flower photos with PhotoShop's cookie cutter tool.

The Three Muses: Postage Stamps / Postimerkit

Postimerkit ovat tällä viikolla aiheena Kolmen Muusan haasteessa. Tein teemasta altsukirjan aukeaman, jossa Herra ja Rouva Lintu ovat lähteneet taidegalleriaan sammuttamaan kulttuurinnälkäänsä. Ja kun siellä vielä sattui olemaan lintuaiheinen näyttelykin! Tein näyttelyn taulut suomalaisista postimerkeistä - jotka ovatkin usein ihan oikeasti pieniä taideteoksia

Postage stamps are the theme of the Three Muses' challenge this week. I made in my altered book a spread showing Mr and Mrs Bird in an art gallery where they are satisfying their need of cultural experiences. And they were lucky to see that the gallery was showing art with birds! I made the paintings of the exhibition from Finnish postage stamps - which often are small pieces of art indeed!

Annen Haastan Sinut # 67

Annen Haastan sinut #67 -haaste antoi lähtökohdaksi kauniin punareunaisen, kaunokirjoitus-pohjaisen atc-taustan. Koska ulkona lumihanget vain kasvavat, halusin tehdä jotain kesäistä, ja niin syntyi tämä perhos-soppa. Enää 4 kuukautta kesään...

Collage Obsession # 4: Longing / Kaipaus

Kesän kaipuu tuli heti mieleeni, kun luin Collage Obsessionin uuden haasteen teeman. Käytin haasteessa annettua Marceline Dayn kuvaa (rajattuna pelkkiin kasvoihin) ja sen taustalla omaa valokuvaani kesäisestä järven pinnasta, johon heijastuu sininen taivas, punertavat pilvet ja rantakoivun oksat. Ihana ruusukoristeinen kehys on peräisin itkupillin arkista.

Longing for summer is the thing that came to mind immediately as I read Collage Obsession's new theme. The photo of Marceline Day was given with the challenge, and I used it (only the face). The background is one of my own photos: there's the surface of a summer lake, reflecting the blue sky, the pink clouds and the birch branches. The frame with the wonderful roses is from a digital sheet of itkupilli.

Theme Thursday Challenge: Pink and Black / Pinkkiä ja mustaa

Pinkkiä ja mustaa on tämän viikon Theme Thursday -haaste. Tein näillä väreillä altsukirjaani aukeaman kohtaan, josta alkaa kuudes luku. Tällä kollaasilla ei ole mitään erityistä tarinaa, se on vain koristeellinen kooste, jollaisia varten olen säästänyt kirjani luvunaloitusaukeamat. - Leidit ja perhoset (useimmat) ovat itkupilliltä, numero 6 ja pinkki muna ovat Riandesignin.

Theme Thursday Challenge this week asks us to make art with the colours pink and black. I used them on this spread from my altered book, making the starting pages for chapter six of the book. There's no special story behind this collage, it's just a decorative compilation of colours and images. - The ladies and (most) butterflies are from itkupilli, the digit six and the pink egg are from Riandesign.

Kolmas muistikirja jämämateriaaleista / Third Shabby Journal of Scraps

Nyt sain valmiiksi jo kolmannen tällaisen "Shabby Journal of Scraps'in", joiden ohjeet sain Mary Ann Moss'in verkkokurssilta. Näiden tekeminen on aina vain hauskempaa - ja kun käyttää juurikin kaikenlaista laatikoista ja kaapeista löytyvää paperia ja kangasta, niin siinä saa panna luovuutensa likoon.

I have finished my third "Shabby Journal of Scraps" which I learned to make with Mary Ann Moss's online class. Making these gets better every time - and when you use all kinds of leftover paper and fabric materials from your boxes and closets you can really put your creativity to work.

Laitan tähän vielä muutaman kuvan kirjan sivuista, niin näette, mitä kaikkea niihin on käytetty: ylijääneitä askartelupapereiden palasia, vanhojen kalentereiden kuvia, kirppiskirjojen sivuja, postikortteja ja -merkkejä, kirjekuoria, sekalaisia kuvia, nuotteja, karttoja jne. Ja kaikki sivut on siis koottu ompelemalla palat yhteen ompelukoneella.

I'm adding a few images of the pages of the journal so you can see what I have used as materials: leftover pieces of crafting papers, images from old wall calendars, pages from flea-market books, postcards, postage stamps, envelopes, various images, music sheets, road maps etc. And as you can see, the pages have been constructed by machine-sewing the pieces together.

The Three Muses: Birds of a Feather / Lintuelämää

Kolmen Muusan viikon teema innosti minut kuvittelemaan Herra ja Rouva Linnun nuoruutta, jolloin he vastarakastuneina näkivät maailman vaaleanpunaisten silmälasien läpi. Tämän altsukirjani aukeaman tausta on maalattu helmiäisakryyliväreillä, linnut piirsin Caran d'Ache -vahaöljyliiduilla, ja vaikka olen surkea leimaaja, oli minun pakko koristella sivua noilla ihanilla Inkadinkadon lintukuvilla, jotka eilen ostin paikallisesta askartelukauppa Skräpteekistä.

The Three Muses' theme for this week inspired me to imagine the youth of Mr and Mrs Bird, when they had just fallen in love and saw the world through pink spectacles. The background of this spread from my altered book is painted with pearlescent acrylics, and I draw the birds with Caran d'Ache wax oil crayons, and even though I'm not much of a stamper, I just had to decorate the page with these wonderful images from Inkadinkado's clear stamps.

Collage Obsession # 3: A Pair / Pari

Collage Obsessionin haaste nro 3 antoi virikkeiksi tämän valokuvan vanhasta pariskunnasta sekä sanan "Pari". Tein siitä taas digi-ATC:n. Parista tuli mieleeni paitsi pariskunta niin myös pelikortit. Niinpä laitoin valokuvan taustaksi patakakkosen (herttakakkonen olisi ehkä ollut vähän imelä). Taustan kuvio on skannattu vanhan kirjan kannen sisäpuolella olleesta paperista - kirjankansissa on usein hienoja kuoseja.

Collage Obsession's challenge # 3 offered as starting points this photo of an old couple and the word "Pair". Again I made a digital ATC as my entry. The word "Pair" made me think of, besides a married couple, the playing cards, and so I put the card two of spades on the background of the photo (two of hearts might have been a little too sweet, I guess). The pattern on the background is scanned from the paper inside the cover of an old book - there are often fantastic patterns on the book covers.
