The Three Muses: Books / Kirjat

Vanhat kasvitieteelliset kirjat ovat minusta ihania - rakastan niiden kuvituksen tyyliä ja ihailen taiteilijoita, jotka ovat osanneet tarkkailla kohteitaan niin keskittyneesti ja siirtää näkemänsä kauniisiin vesivärikuviinsa. Tein tämän aukeaman puutarha-altsukirjaani varten digitaaliversiona. Vasemmalla on Johann Theodor de Bryn käsinväritetty kaiverrus "Puutarha" vuodelta 1612. Keskellä olevat tulppaanit ovat Basilius Beslerin teoksesta "Hortus Eystettensis" vuodelta 1613. Oikeanpuoleinen paneeli on omistettu suosikkikuvittajani Maria Sibylla Merianin (1647-1717) työlle. Hän oli tieteellinen kuvittaja, hyönteistutkimuksen pioneeri ja tutkimusmatkailija, joka tutkittuaan ensin eurooppalaisia hyönteisiä lähti 52-vuotiaana kahden vuoden matkalle Surinamiin tutkimaan hyönteisten muodonmuutoksia. Hyönteiskuviinsa hän piirsi ja maalasi aina myös sen isäntäkasvin, jolla kukin hyönteinen eli. - Sivun taustalla on oma vesivärityöni apilanlehdistä. Tällä koosteella osallistun "Kolmen Muusan" viikon haasteeseen.

I love old botanical books and their illustrations, and I deeply admire the artists who have had the talent to observe the plants and transform their observations into beautiful hand painted images. I made this digital collage as a spread for my garden journal. On the left side there is a hand coloured engraving "Garden" by Johann Theodor de Bry from 1612. In the center there are two tulips from Basilius Besler's book "Hortus Eystettensis" from 1613. The panel on the right side is dedicated to my favourite illustrator Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717) who was a scientific illustrator, a pioneer of insect research, and an explorer. After having researched the European insects she left, at the age of 52, for a two year expedition in Surinam to observe the metamorphoses of insects. In her wonderful images she always depicted also the plants on which the insects lived. - The background image is my own watercolour of clover leaves. This collage is my entry for the "Three Muses'" challenge of this week.

The last days of the year 2010 are here - the countdown has started! This card is my entry for Fun with ATCs challenge. This is the first time I take part in their challenges - and I really enjoyed making this card, since I haven't been making atcs for a while.

Take a Word: Music / Musiikki

Musiikin kuuntelu on yksi hyvä keino kaamoksen kestämiseen. Se vie ajatukset muualle näinä lyhyinä päivinä, jolloin valoisa aika on vielä kovin olematon. Tämä kuva on yksi sivu "Kaamospäiväkirjastani" ja osallistun sillä "Take a Word" -haasteeseen.

What better way could there be to endure the darkest time of the year than listening to music! Music takes my mind in other spheres on these short days, when there hardly seems to be any light hours between morning and evening. The Three Muses: Tidings of Comfort and Joy / Ilon sanomia

Joulunajan alkaessa ripustan ulko-oveeni kranssin kertomaan, että ystävät ovat tervetulleita kyläilemään. Oikea kranssini on tehty kuusen, männyn ja katajan oksista, ja sain sen taas tänäkin vuonna hyvältä ystävältäni Elinalta, joka on sen itse valmistanut. Tämä kuvassa oleva kranssi on altsukirjani aukeamalla, ja sen lehdet tein kankaanpaloista. Varpuset ja muut pikkulinnut ovat tervetulleita lepäämään kranssini suojassa. Tällä aukeamalla osallistun "Kolmen Muusan" haasteeseen, ja toivotan samalla kaikille teille blogiani lukeville oikein Hyvää ja Rauhallista Joulua!

When the Christmas season begins, I hang a garland on my front door to tell that all friends are welcome to visit. The real garland on my door is a gift from my dear friend Elina, and she has made it herself from spruce, pine and juniper twigs. The garland in this image is on a spread of my altered book journal, and I made it from small pieces of fabric. Sparrows and other small birds are most welcome to take a rest in its shelter. This spread is my entry for the "Three Muses'" challenge, and with this image I wish you all a very Beautiful and Peaceful and Merry Christmas season!

Paperihelminauhoja / Paper bead necklaces

Näissä kuvissa on esimerkkejä kaulakoruista, joissa olen käyttänyt tekemiäni paperihelmiä. Helmien raaka-aineet ovat kotoisin roskapostista ja aikakauslehtien mainossivuilta.

Here are some examples of the necklaces in which I have used paper beads that I've made. The materials for the beads came from junk mail and magazine ads.

Take a Word: Celebrate / Juhla

Tämä on värikkäin sivu "Kaamoskirjassani" - ainakin toistaiseksi. Keskitalven lyhyitä päiviä on hyvä valaista väreillä ja kynttilöillä. Tein joulukuuseni kierrätysaineksista: siinä on glögipullon korkin suojusta, kahvipaketin sisäpussia ja karkkipussia. Osallistun tällä sivulla "Take a Word" -haasteeseen, ja samalla toivotan kaikille Oikein Hyvää Joulua!

This is the most colourful page in my "Black Journal" - so far, at least. I think it's good to light the short days of midwinter with colours and candles. My Christmas tree is made of recycled materials: there's foil from a "glögi" bottle, a piece from a coffee package and another piece from a candy bag ("glögi" is a hot spicy berry drink we drink at Christmas time). The Three Muses: Odd Couple / Eripari

Eriparisia yhdistelmiä voi löytyä myös kasvimaailmasta. Tässä Puutarha-altsukirjani aukeamassa olen kuvannut jämäkän suoravartisen auringonkukan ja sitä pitkin kiipeävän rennon köynnöskasvin yhdistelmän. Kasvien osat leikkasin erilaisista kuviollisista paperinpaloista, jotka löysin pöytälaatikostani. Tällä kollaasilla osallistun "Kolmen Muusan" tämän viikon haasteeseen.

Odd couples can be found in the world of plants, too. This collage is a spread from my Garden altered book journal, and here I depicted a sturdy straight standing sunflower with a swinging swirling twining plant growing up along it. I cut the parts of the flowers from various pieces of patterned papers I found in my desk drawer. This collage is my entry for the "Three Muses'" this week's challenge.
